Resume of Md. Momenul Islam,

Director (Current Charge), BMD Mr. Md. Momenul Islam has joined as a Director (Current Charge) of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on 21 November 2024. He has long been serving in different divisions of BMD. Mr. Islam was born in an aristocratic Muslim family on 31 October 1968 in Brahmanbaria District. He secured B.Sc (Hons) with Second Class First position in Statistics and M.Sc with First Class First position in Applied Statistics from Dhaka University. He has also received PGD in Seismology and Earthquake Engineering from IISEE, Japan. Prior to his appointment as Director (Current Charge), he had been Meteorologist April 1996 to July 2024 in different division of BMD. Also, he had been Deputy Director of the Administrative Division and additional charge in the Climate Division from 16 July 2024 to 20 November 2024. He joined BMD in 1996 after qualifying competitive examination conducted by Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC). Mr. Islam has more than Twenty-eight years of experience in forecasting of Meteorology including cyclone forecasting, storm surge, monsoon systems, seasonal, medium range and long-range forecasting. Also, he has Research on Seismology, Oceanography and Project Planning development and management. He is highly skilled on Windows and Linux Operating Systems, Unix Program and Climate Predictability Tools. He served additional charge as a Deputy Project Director (DPD) of Bangladesh Weather and Climate Services Regional Project (BWCSRP Component-A), Bangladesh Meteorological Department funded by World Bank from 06 August 2016 to 11 April 2021. Mr. Islam has represented Bangladesh Government in many international forums. He had opportunities to take part in many seminars, symposiums, workshops and training program in abroad. He has visited different countries of the world including Japan, China, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Austria and Switzerland.
